About Me

This blog is my personal diary of living abroad, documenting growth, culture, everyday moments, and the beauty of starting a new chapter. Through my stories, I hope to capture what it means to grow, adapt, and find meaning in everyday life while living abroad.

Hi, I’m Sheenah

I’m originally from the Philippines, and in 2018, shortly after graduating, I made the life-changing decision to move to Japan. What started as a new chapter quickly became a journey of growth, resilience, and self-discovery.

My first year here was not easy. Everything felt unfamiliar — the language, the culture, the quietness of living far from home. There were many days when the loneliness felt heavier than the excitement of being somewhere new. I was learning how to navigate a different life while also learning more about myself.

But as the years passed, something slowly changed. Japan started to feel less like a place I moved to and more like a place where I was building a life. I began to appreciate the small, simple moments — peaceful mornings, quiet walks, beautiful sunrises, and the comfort of routines that once felt foreign.

This blog is where I share that journey. The places I explore, the cafés and food I discover, and the reflections that come from living abroad. It’s a space for the small stories that often go unnoticed, but somehow shape who we become.

Because sometimes, building a life in a new country isn’t about big moments. It’s about learning to find meaning, beauty, and belonging in the little things.

Why I Started This Blog

I didn’t start this blog because I had everything figured out. I started it because I needed a place to put my thoughts while I was learning how to become someone new.

Living in another country is not always as simple as it looks. There are beautiful moments, but there are also quiet days filled with adjustment, loneliness, homesickness, and growth. I created this blog to share my experiences of living here in Japan and the reality of building a life here as a foreigner and as a Nikkei-jin.

I want to talk about the parts that people do not always see—the struggles, the small wins, the lessons learned, and the moments that slowly shape who we become when we live far from home.

Most of all, I hope this space can give people hope. If you are also trying to build a life somewhere unfamiliar, I want you to know that you are stronger than you think. The journey can feel lonely at times, but you are not alone.

This blog is simply my story, shared honestly, in the hope that someone out there feels understood while finding their own way too. 🌿

Who This Blog Is For

  • You’re living abroad or dreaming about it
  • You’re navigating change and uncertainty
  • You feel homesick but determined
  • You’re learning to be independent
  • You’re quietly becoming stronger

If that sounds like you, you belong here.

Outside of Blogging

When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me:

  • Watching the sunrise or sunset
  • Exploring quiet neighborhoods
  • Sitting in a cafe reflecting
  • Documenting small moments that feel meaningful

I’ve learned that ordinary days often become the ones that shape us most.

There were nights I questioned myself.
There were mornings I felt strong again.

Somewhere between missing home and creating a new one, I found a version of myself that is softer but stronger, quieter but braver.

This blog is not just about life in Japan.
It’s about becoming.

If you’re reading this while building something far from what’s familiar — I see you.

Keep going. Your growth may feel invisible now, but one day it will be the story you’re proud to tell.
